IR Sphinx ATR Product Family
IR Sphinx ATR product range uses the concept of Attenuated Total Reflection to record an infrared spectrum of a sample. The products are available in the wavelength range from 2.5–5.0 µm or of 5.5–11.0 µm. The spectral resolution varies between 18cm-1 and 36cm-1. All spectrometers include our proprietary software SphinxSuite which runs on all commonly used operating systems. The products are battery operated without having any moving parts and are designed to be truly portable. The IR Sphinx ATR spectrometer are available in three different configurations namely IR Sphinx Lab, IR Sphinx Industrial or IR Sphinx Portable.
All configurations can also be adapted for the following applications:
- The ATR interface is modified with a special flow through cell to enable continuous monitoring
- The ATR spectrometer are modified with a dedicated sample clamping mechanism that ensures that the pressure with which the sample is pressed onto the ATR crystal remains constant
Lab in Box
The Lab in Box includes an ATR spectrometer, a thermal printer and an integrated tablet computer with touch screen functionality. It is designed to be used in the field and in harsh environments and no specific knowledge is required to use it.
It allows the customer to carry out sample testing anywhere without the need of sending samples to a laboratory and waiting for days for the results. The Lab in Box provides accurate analysis in minutes.
Lab in Box uses the Sphinx Suite software Express Mode that is especially configured for ease of use for the customer. The ATR spectrometer has a spectral resolution of 16cm-1 and operates in the wavelength range from 5.5um -11.0um.
The Lab in Box is designed to provide quick and accurate analysis in the field. If desired by the customer Spectrolytic can work together with the customer to adapt the Lab in box to any specific application.
The Lab in Box has already attracted a significant customer interest and a few examples are listed below
- Shipping industry (engine oil, grease lubricants)
- Dairy (milk analysis, adulterant, freezing point detection)
- Wind turbine (Transmission, hydraulic and Gearbox oil)

IR Sphinx Transmission Product Family
IR Sphinx Transmission product range measures the infrared spectrum in transmission mode. The sample is located in a flow cell that is an integral part of the spectrometer. The transmission mode products are especially suited for inline measurements of fluid samples. The products are available in the wavelength range from 2.5–5.0 µm or of 5.5–11.0 µm. The spectral resolution varies between 18 cm-1 and 36 cm-1. All spectrometers include our proprietary software SphinxSuite which runs on all commonly used operating systems.
The IR Sphinx Transmission spectrometer are available in two different configurations namels IR Sphinx Transmission Lab and IRSphinx Transmission Industrial. Both system can have up to 4 different bandpass filter integrated into the system that can provide the customer with additional application specific information.
IR Sphinx Gas
The gas measurement system is able to measure the concentration of most gases down to the 0.1 % range. The gas sensor can be configured to detect gases that have absorption peaks between 2.5–5.0 µm or 5.5–11.0 µm.
The gas sensor is battery operated, does not have any moving parts and is designed with ruggedness and usability in mind.
The gas sensor include our proprietary software SphinxSuite which runs on all commonly used operating systems.
Static FTIR Spectrometer
Our new static FTIR spectrometer is, to our knowledge, the fastest FTIR spectrometer on the market.
The patented spectrometer can measure at a modulation frequency of up to 50 Hz, it is very robust and does not contain any moving parts.
The spectral resolution of the system is 6 cm-1 and it currently operates in the wavelength range from 7.0–14.0 µm.
The spectrometer is compatible with the SphinxSuite software package allowing the user to quickly analyse and quantify the data.
Initial applications are envisaged in industrial process control and medical screening scenarios where the speed of the system provides a clear competitive edge over all existing solution.
